What to
Expect?

As a Koi dealer, trader or importer you want to do your shopping as efficiently as possible, but also have fun and experience the ultimate Japan feeling.

Nothing beats buying your fish from the home of the Nishikigoi, Niigata! In Japan there are 2 places known for its many koi breeders. Niigata and Hiroshima. In the south you will find breeders such as Sakai Fish Farm, Momotaro and Omosako.

Niigata is a western prefecture. In the mountains lies the Koi village of Yamakoshi and in the valley Ojiya and Nagaoka. The place where most of the koi breeders are located.

You can visit several koi breeders per day, which is why Niigata is our base. Here you will find breeders such as Dainichi, Torazo, Isa and Maruhiro.

We also try to make your business trip a fun trip, with nice people, good food (fish or meat), great hotel, fast transport and of course the best Koi for transparent rates.

Travel period

You can buy Koi in Japan almost all year round, but there are two periods in which we offer our service. You can buy koi in the spring (January to April) or in October and/or November. During the winter you can visit the world championships in Tokyo, also called the All Japan Koi Show.

You can then do a koi buying trip to the world of Niigata, where there is sometimes meters of snow during the winter period. During the period from January to April you can mainly buy one-year-old koi.

In March and April the weather is better and you can experience the famous blossom depending on the weather.

Shipping

We can ship almost all fish worldwide from Japan. In the season we can offer scheduled shipments to most destinations, however airfreight is tight, meaning we have to be flexible, and try to go for the best date to ship out if the planned date is not available. Although we have the best possible connections to freight agents and airliners there is always the chance on force majeure. If so we will inform you straight away.

We use the services of one of the most renowned companies in Japan. You pay nothing extra for this. Your benefits? Multilingual staff (Japanese and English), almost 30 years of experience shipping Koi, health as a top priority and based in Japan.

We take care of the paperwork, all you have to do is pick up the fish at the airport.

Travel to Niigata

Traveling in a country like Japan can be seen as an easy task. Everything is signposted in English and Japanese and people everywhere are helpful if you have any questions.

We understand that after a long flight you want to go to the hotel as soon as possible for a hot shower or go straight into the mountains to visit the first Koi breeders.

Tokyo has 2 airports: Narita and Haneda. You can easily travel to Tokyo Station from both airports. From Tokyo, depending on the time of day, one or more bullet trains per hour go to Nagaoka (the third largest city in Niigata). Here you can find more information about the Joetsu Shinkansen line from Tokyo to Nagaoka (Niigata).

We will assist you with directions from your airport to the door of your hotel. Take into account a total travel time from Tokyo airport to Nagaoka of approximately 3.5 hours.

Most hotels can be reached within a 5-minute walk from Nagaoka station. If possible I will pick you up here or we will meet at the hotel.

We know internet is very important during your trip, we use Japan Wireless, a portable (unlimited) pocket-WiFi you can rent for $4,5,- a day!

Fish Health

The health of the fish is a high priority, they are animals that deserve the best possible care to make the journey as stress-free as possible. Fortunately, breeders and shippers have decades of experience.

We make use of “Alfish”. This is a special sachet that is “glued” inside the plastic bag to ensure good and healthy traveling for the koi. Further on if needed temperature controlled trucks are used. When the temperatures outside rises we might add Icy Gel Packs to ensure the temperature in the beginning of the trip stays down.

However, there are certain rules if something goes wrong, after your registration you will receive our terms and conditions that you must agree to before you can buy koi with us.
